Background

I am a Registered Dietitian with more than 40 years of experience helping people implement lifestyle interventions to improve health and quality of life. I earned my BA in Sociology and Spanish from Macalester College. While working at a health-food restaurant in Chicago, I was inspired to pursue nutrition as a career. After completing additional studies in nutrition science and an internship at the Hines VA Hospital, my professional practice began.

My career has spanned long-term care, drug and alcohol treatment centers, child welfare agencies, hospitals, and, for the past 25 years my favorite, outpatient care. I hold Certificates of Training in Adult and Pediatric/Adolescent Weight Management and have been a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) for 20 years. My areas of expertise include diabetes, metabolic surgery, and weight management, though I regularly address conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, gut health and metabolic syndrome.

I enjoy bringing nutrition to the community through volunteer work at schools, fitness centers, churches, food pantries, and community gardens. I developed a Healthy Living Club for young adults with Down syndrome and have given talks on sports nutrition to high school teams and local fitness studios. “Everyone deserves to know nutrition” is my motto. As a mother of four who values an active life—walking, soccer, kayaking, and pickleball—I will take a practical, collaborative approach to your nutrition care.

Approach

"Nutrition counseling sessions are a partnership. I like to learn where clients are on their nutrition journey, then provide knowledge and guidance to implement practical interventions. A dietitian’s job is to use evidence-based nutrition knowledge, working with their client, to create nutrition plans molded to the person, not the person molded to the plan. That is the fasinating part of the job and the reason I look forward to working with you."
