Katherine Hearne, RD

Hi, I’m Katie - thanks for checking out my bio page! I have 15 years of experience as a dietitian in an academic medical center and a doctorate in health promotion and health education from the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. While I’ve had a variety of experiences as a dietitian, helping parents grow healthy children is my favorite thing! That’s why I’m a Certified Specialist in Pediatrics through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Whether your baby, child, or adolescent eats by mouth or tube, I can help you navigate their growth and feeding journey. I especially enjoy working with children with special healthcare needs and chronic conditions! I take a coaching approach in my sessions, empowering you to drive our sessions, identifying your own goals and practical, realistic next steps. I provide technical expertise and knowledge, education as needed/desired, and help you identify action steps that work for you and your child. I actively engage older children and adolescents, as they’re able, in this process so they and their parent/guardian agree on goals, decreasing arguments and stress later while increasing success.

Children and parents/guardians both need to be present for each session, so I can visualize the child and include them in our session as much as possible. I’ll teach you how to take reliable weights and measure your child’s mid-upper arm circumference as another way to track their nutrition status. If your child requires oral nutrition supplements or formula for tube feeding, I’ll coordinate with your pediatrician to send recommendations or orders.

After working both outpatient and inpatient in pediatrics, I’m branching out into private practice for more flexibility in my schedule and margin for managing my own chronic health conditions. I enjoy gardening on my patio, traveling at a slow pace, and trying new restaurants across Houston, the most diverse city in the nation, with friends.
