Hi! I'm Belkys (pronounced like bell and kiss).
I believe food is medicine!
I believe nutrition should not be confusing, complicated or time consuming.
I believe nutrition should be fun, enjoyable, empowering and affordable.
And I believe it is different for everybody!
Since I was seventeen years old, I have known my purpose is to help others achieve health and wellness through nutrition. To this day, I am still passionate about encouraging and supporting clients to make the sustainable changes they want and need to achieve.
Working with pre-diabetes is my specialty and, yes, I am excited to share I have helped many reverse it by lowering their A1c!
What is it like to work with me?
At Balance with Belkys, you can expect to receive personalized nutrition and evidence based care.
Together, we will set goals that feel realistic to you and your schedule so that you have more time to do what matters most.
I use a non-diet, food is medicine approach with the focus being on health, balance and behavior changes rather than on weight or the number on the scale.
My program covers topics such as: food as medicine for healing, recipes and meal planning for busy individuals, stress management, movement, sleep, emotional eating, hydration, dining out, grocery store tour, and several other factors that impact your nutrition and well being.
I have a science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from New York University and completed a one year internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital , an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. I am also a certified culinary nutritionist.
When I'm not working, you'll find me trying out new recipes and sharing them with my family as well as taking long walks with our Siberian Husky.
I love Oreos. I love mangoes. But Oreos win!
I use a non-diet approach and lots of nutrition education depending on the client's needs. I also use a back to basics approach in order to simplify information and goals that help make those sustainable changes attainable. My counseling style is warm and compassionate. Growing up in NYC, I can appreciate and understand the importance of culture sensitivity and I incorporate this into my work as well.
