I became a Registered Dietitian in 2012 after a lifelong journey with struggling to understand diet, weight, and wellness in a family that did not place importance on those values. I wanted to help others who were struggling through the maze of misinformation so they could avoid the dieting mistakes I made, as well as the emotional distress it can bring.
I believe a focus on health and fitness is far more beneficial than one on being a certain size, and I found that eating for health was much easier and more rewarding than eating for a bikini body. I also know that there are a lot of misconceptions about weight in our society, and I know that "fat and fit" is a very real thing often overlooked by doctors.
I spent 5 years as a dialysis dietitian, which I consider my true love in healthcare. I understand the complexities of the diet and the bone mineral imbalances that result. I was a strong advocate for IDPN and saw impressive results in albumin levels for patients on it.
I have also worked in long-term care facilities as a contract dietitian and diet tech, and have some experience working in the tribal system in Arizona.
Most recently, I have been on tirzepatide and was amazed by its ability to take off the steroid weight I had put on following a bad car accident. I support the decision to use them or not, but have come to accept them as a valuable weight-loss tool.
I like to set realistic goals and expectations by working with each patient on an individual basis, tailored to the person's unique traits and lifestyle, with an emphasis on health and wellness over aesthetics.
