Hi! My name is Rickeya, but everyone calls me Keya. I am a registered dietitian nutritionist with over 10 years of experience in both clinical and community dietetics. An alum of the amazing Howard University (HU...U KNO!), I was taught that nutrition is more than just food. Since graduating, it has been my mission to provide personalized care to all of those in need, and to connect my clients with resources that make making healthy choices easier. I currently sit on the State of Virginia's Commission to End Hunger, where I focus on increasing access to food to food insecure community members.
I have a variety of focus areas, from weight management (both weight gain and weight loss) to special clinical conditions such as renal disease and wound healing. In my career as a RDN, I've worked with several special populations of patients, including dialysis patients, seniors, and cancer patients from all walks of life. Honestly, I think that's what makes me so well rounded.
What drives me to serve people in this way is my love for food and my love for seeing everyone live their best lives, no matter their circumstances. I consider myself a food nerd, and believe that all foods (including dark chocolate and bacon) can fit into a healthy diet.
As a dietitian, it's my calling to help you find a healthy, realistic, all foods fit approach to your relationship with food. Seeing me, you can expect to learn, be held accountable, find reliable applicable ways to improve your health and your relationship with food, and have fun while doing all of this! This is a judgement free zone, and it's all about you and what you desire.
In my personal life, I am the mom to a teenage cuddle bug, and the wife of a gamer who just so happens to be my high school sweetheart. I also enjoy taking care of my handsome little barking fur baby, as well as my two bearded dragons (who have been known to make appearances every once in a while). I love reading, making my own press on nails, writing poetry, cross stitching, and diamond painting. But most of all, I LOVE FOOD!
My favorite saying as a dietitian? "I'm not a rabbit, and I don't eat like one." I don't expect you to, either. Let me help you improve your health and still love food.
"I am dietitian that truly believes in the person-centered approach. I like to meet my clients where they are, and am honored to join them on the journey of where they want to be. I use up to date nutrition science, my love of food, and an "all foods fit" approach to helping people improve their lives, so they can thrive in the ways they see fit."
