I began my journey in nutrition as a student athlete through high school and college. Nutrition has always fascinated me and I see it as a tool to empower your body. I have always been interested in helping others in some way, but I didn't even know what a dietitian is until I was well into college.
After considering teaching or nursing, I decided to give dietetics a shot. After shadowing dietitians in the clinical, outpatient, and food service settings, I fell in love with the idea of helping others achieve their health goals using food.
I received my bachelor's degree in Nutrition at University of Central Arkansas and completed my internship at University of Idaho. Since school, I have worked in the clinical setting in a rehab hospital and in the outpatient setting.
Working in the outpatient setting, visiting with patients one-on-one has been one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. The best part of my career is seeing clients' health and confidence improve. I feel grateful to be the little voice in the background empowering clients to reach their goals.
"As a dietitian, I like to meet my clients where they are. I start by getting to know them as people first and then get to know their food and lifestyle habits. The client leads the conversation, so this means that the client is in the driver's seat of the conversation at all times, setting goals that align with their lifestyle, preferences and family dynamics. Historically, setting personalized, realistic goals has led to great success and confidence for my clients."
