Background

Hello! My name is Sarah Ludwig, PhD, MS, RDN, LDN. I am a registered dietitian (RD) since 2017 with a background in clinical (hospital) nutrition & higher education(undergraduate & graduate levels). My dissertation topic was Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus & food literacy. I presented this original research at both state & national conferences in addition to publications in scientific journals. In addition to Diabetes Mellitus, I have experience working with conditions such as Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD); End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD); Malnutrition; Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD); Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD); Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS); Cardiovascular Disease (CVD); Pregnancy; Postpartum; Anxiety; Depression; & more. I also have experience with nutrition support, both enteral & parenteral, general wellness, weight loss, bariatrics, & surgery.

Those that know me describe me as dedicated; genuine; caring; professional; intelligent; trustworthy; diligent; innovative; & someone with follow-through. In a session with me, you can expect to feel like a priority whose goals are paramount. I enjoy a challenge: it should be apparent that I am committed to your success & will be creative to find a successful approach. My clients experience a healthcare provider who is not only professional & concerned with the nutritional tasks at hand but compassionate & concerned about her clients’ well-being.

My ideal client is an individual serious about wanting change who understands the process will not be complete overnight. The client should understand it will require effort on his / her part, but know that I will be your guide and available to assist when needed between scheduled sessions. I like appointments with clients where they are singularly-focused without a noisy, busy background that can detract from our important work.

I am comprehensive & thorough, viewing a person as a whole rather than just the sum of many parts. I evaluate intrinsic motivators, perceived barriers to success, preferences, lifestyle, & other relevant factors because I believe that people are unique, so a "one size fits all" approach cannot encompass all facets of an individual. As a healthcare provider, I like to function as a cheerleader & partner, not a judge. I want to assist in reaching success & celebrate you when we have done so. I am passionate about helping clients feel better & enjoy life more in addition to seeing progress with measures such as the scale & lab values.

I became an RD to employ my passion for helping others in the medical community, which I was familiar with from a young age. As a small child, I enjoyed viewing the Food Pyramid & Nutrition Facts Panels on items at home while organizing our pantry. This expanded to focus on arranging food stations, highlighting certain items to support my father as he struggled with overweight, obesity, & emotional eating.

I am from southwestern Louisiana & enjoy spending time with my family, especially in the “Sportsman’s Paradise” with our unique scenery. I love to learn on a daily basis & enjoy reading, particularly fiction for stress relief. Other hobbies include organizing, decorating, making handmade wire jewelry, listening to music, & photography.

While I love the hospital environment, I have built a private practice to better allow for establishing patient rapport & experiencing greater fulfillment in seeing clients’ progress that is not always visible in a short hospital admission. I believe that my dedication in gaining important needed clinical experience in a hospital setting paired with spending significant time & effort to achieve a PhD in nutrition empowers me to assist individuals to learn how to change their lives. I hope that I will get the honor to work with you to help you achieve your goals!
