Background

Patricia N. White, MS RDN Licensed/Nutritionist-Dietitian

Descriptive Bio

PERSONAL

As a teenager, I was an extremely picky eater, had chronic fatigue, and was not focused in class. I was later diagnosed as anemic. A Dietitian instructed me on an iron rich modified diet and encouraged me to change my nutrient poor diet. I followed the dietary regimen, and my energy, focus and health improved. I was subsequently stimulated by my improved health to pursue a career in health and nutrition.

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCES

I graduated from Howard University with a Master’s Degree in Nutrition and for more than 25+ years my professional nutrition work experience has progressively been diverse and rewarding. Additionally, I have a Master’s Degree in Business and Health Administration and a Master’s Degree in Divinity.

My nutrition work experiences include: Clinical and Administrative Dietetics assignments as a Medical Service Corp Officer in the U.S. Navy, Adjunct Professor at two Community Colleges, Out-Patient Clinical Dietetic (established WIC Programs), Long Term Care-Nursing Facilities, Diabetic Self-Management Care Programs, Head Start Nutrition and for more than 10+ years and current, in Private Practice.

NUTRITIONAL INTERVENTION SKILLS

Nutrition education is a powerful tool which empowers individuals to structure a plan to enhance long term healthy life-style goals.

All Clients on modified dietary regimens are seen after a medical prescribed referral is received. Nutrition intervention is one-on-one starting with a comprehensive health assessment. I guide my clients towards setting SMART goals in small attainable increments that lead to success. Detail feedback is available to the health care providers.

I believe that each client is unique. Therefore, challenges to optimal health are addressed within their individualized SMART goals. Together we design menu plans, grocery lists, cooking and recipe modifications and discuss any barriers that impede their dietary plan.

COMMUNITY NUTRITION

I also teach virtual and hybrid Community Nutrition classes, using PowerPoint visuals and diverse

hands on or technological modalities which enhance the learning process.

SPECIALTIES

My specialties in nutrition education and management are Hypertension, General nutrition, Pre & Type 2 Diabetics, vegan and vegetarian diets, weight-loss, nutrient and brain health, incorporation of Pre-and Probiotics, nutrition and pregnancy, childhood nutrition and nutrition for seniors.

Availability

Approach

"My approach to nutrition counseling is to put the client at ease by establishing a comfortable one-on-one rapport. I engage in instructions which empower the client to help design the meal plan as a team and their input is valuable to reach the goals. I find points in our discussion that might have some good humor. My clients feel comfortable that I am approachable for questions during and after the sessions. Takeaway instruction materials are short term increments for long term success."
