I am open for business as a private practice dietitian, specializing in renal nutrition, because I have worked on the tertiary end of nutrition helping people with ESRD (end stage renal disease) for several years. I started out as a public health dietitian at the Dallas WiC program. After public health I gained experience working with the geriatric population having diverse diseases within the long term care industry.
As a current renal dietitian, It is disheartening to see increasingly younger patients with kidney failure, not just having diabetes as a root cause, but hypertension is a little known root cause for many people’s kidney failure (especially young minority women in my experience). There are nutrition and lifestyle considerations in which I would like to educate people BEFORE chronic disease complications such as renal failure. I want to talk to people when they think they're fine... and remind them of the importance of small lifestyle changes that make a huge difference, such as, drinking water; remind people to truly assess chronic pain and its root cause and to seek help professionally vs chronically self-medicating with food, alcohol and NSAIDS.
I would like to motivate people to intentionally reframe the idea of physical activity into more of a lifestyle choice of many activities that they love to do that will exert energy, wake up the metabolism and fight insulin resistance and stress!
