I have been an evolving registered dietitian/nutritionist for 19 years. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics, Master of Science in Human Nutrition with a minor concentration in Exercise Science and PhD in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health Promotion and Education. Throughout this period, I have been an inpatient/outpatient clinical dietitian, provide nutrition education and counseling to athletes/active individuals and formerly worked in cooperative extension leading projects and community-based nutrition programs with the UDC-CAUSES Center for Nutrition, Diet, and Health. I’m currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Nursing and Nutrition of the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability, and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC).
As an individual who has held hybrid roles in healthcare and community health, I’m a strong advocate for linking clinical, community-based and digital nutrition resources to optimize patient/client care. Moreover, I conduct research that has led to published work on culturally tailored nutrition for chronic disease prevention and management, food security, dietary shifts during and after COVID-19, and nutrition/physical activity needs among aging adults. I also consult for fitness and corporate wellness programs and serve as a subject matter expert in media arenas that have included radio and print interviews. My areas of nutrition counseling practice include general nutrition, sports medicine/performance nutrition, chronic kidney disease, digestive disorders, brain health & the brain-gut connection, chronic kidney disease and CVD risk factors. My deep fascination with the role of nutrition and exercise in restoring the mind and body inspired me to pursue this career and mentor students.
