Background

Malou (she/her or they/them) lives and works at the intersections of race, gender, class. They aspire to create a space for clients to feel safe enough, honoring individual culture and social identities. With exploration of her ancestral lineage, Malou’s pamilya (family) stories of partnership and seasons spent farming alongside the kalabaw (or carabao, a water buffalo endemic to The Philippines Islands) has offered inspiration to her work in nutrition. Kalabaw are strong farm-hands, companions offering a symbol of food security, belonging, and a bit of ecopsychology- understanding ways of expanding the emotional connection between oneself and nature.

A first-generation college student, Malou earned a Bachelors of Science in Food Science and Nutrition at Central WA University. Malou's 13+ years of clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) spans working with adolescents, families, adults, military and Veteran clients facing eating disorders or wounded relationships with food, body-image. They use a client-centered, strength-based focus supporting those with chronic conditions. Working on eating behaviors or one's relationship with food includes biopsychosocial aspects and because of the benefits of her experience thus far, Malou encourages all of her clients to engage with a complete interdisciplinary care team (often including a primary medical provider, therapist, psychiatrist and dietitian.) Malou is based out of Fort Collins, CO - Traditional Lands of the Ute, Cheyenne, Arapaho and other Indigenous Peoples - and sees clients in-person and virtually in CO. They're licensed to practice in WA, OR, MD, NY, CA, and a few more states.
