Background

I first started really diving into nutrition as a collegiate athlete while running Division I cross country and track. I had learned a little bit about nutrition from my classes while working towards my Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, but a lot of what I practiced came from Googling and from my coach. This method of piecing things together mainly involved cutting foods out, less processed food, less refined sugar, and missing out on my favorite foods at social events. I felt like I was eating "perfectly", so constant injuries, lingering soreness and poor performance stumped me.

It was only when I went back to become a dietitian that I realized I was missing some of the key components to fueling as an athlete, carbohydrates and enough energy. Changing from doing less, to adding more and focusing more on how I felt than if I "looked like a runner" brought consistency and eventually success as I was able to qualify for the indoor national meet in the 3,000 meters. My passion now is helping you skip the restriction, poor relationship with food and under fueling and get straight to supporting performance with foods you like and recipes and strategies that fit into your everyday life.

I have worked with athletes of all levels in a wide range of sports from jiu jitsu to triathlon to lacrosse. I have completed the International Olympic Committee Sports Nutrition Diploma and have experience in the collegiate and high school sports nutrition setting. I love working with every level of athlete, so don't feel like your dreams are too small. Working with a sports dietitian is a great way to nail your nutrition in any phase of life and can help you feel great and do things you never imagined!

Approach

I'm Maddie! If you find yourself wondering whether eating healthy and enjoying food can coexist, I hear you. My passion as a dietitian stems from being a collegiate runner who spent years finding the balance of eating for health and success and feeling like food had to be boring and isolating. I hope to help others recognize that food can fuel your body and keep you doing what you love, while also being delicious, a source of joy and bringing you together with others.
