Katie Grubiak RDN's professional involvement in eating disorder treatment started at the UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center in 2011. There she worked closely with medical staff and the UCLA Counseling & Psychological Services Center in a treatment team approach to support students struggling with eating disorders. She has continued to work among eating disorder multi-disciplinary teams believing that holistic care means having all areas of health supported with practitioners communicating effectively, including often taking on a leadership role. Katie’s other eating disorder employment affiliations include working alongside Dr. Lauren Muhlheim at Eating Disorder Therapy LA within a team approach to support families choosing Family Based Treatment (FBT). In addition, Katie was the Dietitian at Optimum Performance Institute (OPI) in Woodland Hills, California which specializes in DBT focused residential treatment for young adults with Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and co-occurring issues such as eating disorders. Besides individual nutritional counseling specifically to support eating disorder recovery, Katie taught the Restorative Movement Group and the Nutritional Balance Group at OPI. Themes in both discussed building a nutritive relationship with food and body through sensation, metaphor, intuition, and self-compassion. Katie now has her own nutrition, patient advocacy, and care coordination private practice named NUTRITION ILLUMINATION-honoring and supporting clients on their journeys to find deep nourishment and health on all levels. As a master trainer, she is passing on her style of FBT-informed care to other dietitians through co-leading a course called "Working with Adolescents & their Families in Eating Disorder Treatment" through EDRD Pro. https://edrdpro.com/fbt-informed-eating-disorder-treatment-agenda/
