Hi! I’m Jess a Denver-based Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), avid traveler, and dog mom. I’m the founder and owner of Patterns of Nutrition and The Lactose-Free Dietitian. I am originally from the small island of St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I have always had a passion for nutrition. At a young age, my parents instilled the importance of eating a variety of healthful foods and having a good old-fashioned sit-down family dinner. I have always enjoyed gardening and growing up I was lucky to have beautiful tropical growing outside our house.
In 2011, my dad was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. At the time, he needed many treatments that affected his nutrition, such as gastrointestinal surgery, an ostomy, and parenteral (IV) nutrition. Going through this journey with him exposed me to the whole world of nutrition. It was at this time that I was resolved in my decision to become a registered dietitian.
I have an education in nutrition and have worked both as a clinical dietitian in a hospital setting as well as an outpatient dietitian doing one one-on-one counseling with clients. I have specialty nutrition experience in a number of areas: such as weight loss, diabetes, cardiac rehab, oncology, digestive diseases, food allergies/intolerances, and women’s health. Most importantly, I aim to use my knowledge of nutrition to empower and share with others, so they can thrive through diet and lifestyle.
When I am not talking about nutrition, you can find me with my husband Drew, our silly dogs Delli and Waffles, and our cat named Sushi. I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, cooking, gardening, traveling the world, learning the Czech language, reading, and catching up with family and friends.
