Hi! My name is Laurel Scott, and I am so happy you're here. I am located in Northern Rhode Island, and have been a dietitian for about four years now. I went to the University of Rhode Island and earned a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and I completed my Master's in Nutrition with a concentration in public health, and dietetic internship at Saint Elizabeth University.
My experiences vary. I have worked primarily in the long term care/nursing home setting, as well as outpatient counseling. I am well-experienced in clinical nutrition and medical nutrition therapy for a variety of conditions- such as diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, IBS, Food Allergies, malnutrition, eating disorders, and tube feeds. I primarily specialize in Bariatric Surgery nutrition and weight management. I am knowledgeable in weight loss medications as well.
Even with most of my background being in weight loss, your health and wellbeing is my number one goal! Health is not all about numbers, and I enjoy helping others realize that. Diet culture has shaped the way we often think about food and our body's, and it can be tough to unlearn that. I think if we take an individualized and holistic approach, we can learn how to have a better relationship with food and our body's, while reaching our health goals.
I focus on getting to know the client and all aspects of life that impact the way we eat and our health. Through goal setting and open discussion, we can find what works best for you. I recognize that every person is unique, and am able to flexible with my approach.
Outside of being a dietitian, my hobbies include running, dancing, cooking, going to the gym, and belting showtunes in my car. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, fiancé, and my two kittens- Squid and Tuna.
